STRUCTURETEC DEVELOPS PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR SCOTTS MIRACLE-GRO

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company is the world’s largest marketer of branded consumer lawn and garden products. The Scotts Miracle-Gro Corporate Headquarters campus located in Marysville, Ohio called in StructureTec to evaluate their pavement areas, help organize the data and create a long range program for maintenance and restoration.

StructureTec performed the evaluation and then worked to devise a long range program which involved ranking the five separate sites and their accompanying parking areas in order of priority for repair and maintenance. To help in this process of organizing and scheduling, StructureTec had to set the priorities based on the factors of different pavement types, traffic loading and corporate importance.

A few challenges posed themselves during this project. One was a limited budget and a short time frame. All budgeted money had to be used by mid-September giving a small window to complete maintenance and restoration to any area. StructureTec utilized the priorities and budgets that were established during the evaluation to quickly choose which pavement areas could be done with the budget available. This allowed for a quicker transition to development of specification documents for bidding the project.

Another challenge StructureTec faced during construction was soft spots were found after milling up the pavement which, due to Field Quality Control, StructureTec Project Managers were able to recognize and fix the soft spots in the sub-base before paving began which prevented a premature failure of the pavement down the road.

StructureTec was able to utilize the existing pavement cross section by pulverizing it in place and using it as an addition to the existing sub-base. This allowed a cost savings that would have been used by bringing in new gravel to upgrade the inadequate existing cross section.
