StructureTec completed a review of the west elevation wall and window conditions of Building 700 at the GE Aviation site in Evendale, Ohio. The purpose of the evaluation was to determine causes for persistent reported leakage.

 

After the evaluation was complete, it was found that there was significant masonry deterioration, sealant failure throughout, and severe deflected steel shelf angles. Flashings systems were insufficient and/or inexistent.

 

StructureTec provided recommendations to resolve the leakage and moved forward in the design development phase. GE Aviation opted to complete this restoration project via StructureTec's Premier Engineered Projects, a design-build delivery method. StructureTec's construction entity, Construction Services Group, was contracted to perform the scope of work. By utilizing the Design-Build delivery method, the project could be completed nearly 33% faster than a traditional design-bid-build method.

 

Construction Services Group performed the restoration of extensive masonry damage and deterioration, including stair-stepped cracks, shifted masonry, spalled masonry, and cracks at building corners. Work consisted of removing and rebuilding significant portions of masonry and incorporating expansion joints into the wall system, enabling movement. They restored portions of rusted steel lintels and replaced the steel lintels that had significant corrosion/deflection. Complete sealant replacement was provided, as well as through-wall flashings at the windows.

 

After completing the project a 10 year workmanship guarantee was issued, as well as a 20 year material warranty.

This complex project was completed ahead of the client’s schedule, within budget, and resulted in a completely restored, leak-free building.
